After the first night of their much anticipated Australian return, legendary alt-rockers The Lemonheads have shared new single, ‘Deep End’, the first cut taken from their upcoming new album, Love Chant.
Arriving later this year via Fire Records, Love Chant is The Lemonheads’ first album in almost two decades. The rollicking ‘Deep End’ is accompanied by a music video produced by Surreal Hotel Arts and a limited (500 copies only) 12” single available at the band’s upcoming Australian shows.
The riff heavy track is co-written with Tom Morgan of Smudge and features Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis and Juliana Hatfield, with The Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando having this to say about the track and the Aussie tour: “I'm beyond stoked to be heading back to Australia, just in time for the release of new music that I’ve been working on, including a single co-written with the incredibly talented Tom Morgan.
“Australia has always been a massive source of inspiration for my music, and with new music coming soon, this feels like a dream come true. It's also a special moment for me, as we wrap up celebrating the 30th anniversary of It's a Shame About Ray and Come On Feel The Lemonheads. To be able to mark the end of that era in Australia, a place that's always felt like a second home, is almost like being blessed to move on to a new moment.”
The B-side to ‘Deep End’ is a wonderful cover of the late, great Townes Van Zandt’s ‘Sad Cinderella’. The track is a duet between Dando and Erin Rae that veers into Neil Young territory.
