Vera Blue Shares New Single ‘Maze’ From Upcoming Third Album ‘Modern Rituals’

The singer-songwriter is also hitting the road on a national tour this August.

After announcing the release of her third album Modern Rituals, out Friday 21 August via Island Records/Universal Music Australia, Vera Blue has dropped the record’s latest single, ‘Maze’.

Receiving its first play on triple j, the track has a storied history, with ‘Maze’ first crafted several years ago while Vera was on tour with Flume. She continued to work on the track over the journey, bringing in lyricist Nat Dunn and Jono Ma alongside producer Eric J, with ‘Maze’ slowly evolving into the final version found on Modern Rituals.

“This song really went on a bit of a journey, which feels fitting given what it’s about,” explains Vera. “I first started it a few years ago while I was on tour with Flume. In a similar way to ‘Rushing Back’, we pieced together the melodies without any idea of what the song would eventually become.”

Vera adds, “We had to let it breathe for a couple of years, and eventually it found its way back to me.”

Keen to celebrate the release of Modern Rituals with her fans, Vera has announced a headline Australian tour, her first since 2022. Commencing in Brisbane at Princess Theatre on Friday 21 August, the Modern Rituals Tour will then hit City Recital Hall in Sydney on Saturday 22 August, UC Refectory in Canberra on Sunday 23 August and Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday 26 August, with the final concert in Adelaide at The Gov on Thursday 27 August.

‘Maze’ follows the previously released album tracks ‘Rituals’, ‘Parallel Desire’, ‘In The Corner’ and ‘Go Lucky’, with each track showcasing Vera Blue’s immense talent.

Next week sees her return to the stage for a special show alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for Vera Blue x MSO Orchestral Veil at Hamer Hall before she hits the road in August for her much-anticipated headline tour of Australia.
