You should LISTEN to
The Condos – ‘Mania’
“There are methods to creating a mayhem that sounds different from your usual mayhem.” – Nick Cave. Nick Cave understands mayhem. His destructive antics performing angular industrial post-punk, especially in his band, The Birthday Party, were historically heavy and chaotic. Adelaide’s The Condos, have discovered their own postpunk mayhem with ‘Mania’, a fast-moving, gloom-driven articulation that parallels Protomartyr and earlier Joy Division. “Devils in our skin…” vocalist Wynn bellows over the top of powerful percussion, bombastic bass, and sinister synthesisers – it’s heavy, it’s ‘Mania’!
You Should See
Deafheaven
Since the release of Deafheaven’s magnum opus, Sunbather, the band have been ‘Irresistible’ to a vast array of music devotees worldwide. Combining post-rock, shoegaze and indie soundscapes with the harshness of black metal becomes a marvel of wonderment; the fusion was gloriously entitled “blackgaze”. The quintet have released four LPs since, constantly and phenomenally evolving; they will soon be down under to celebrate their latest innovation, Lonely People with Power.

Gaerea
“Gaerea’s music will unmistakably leave a mark on you.” – Jeff Podoshen, Metal Injection, 2022. In the space of a decade, Portugal’s masked black metal pathbreakers have released five full-lengths that have had a remarkably everlasting impact. Balancing melody with malice, intricacy with intensity, and harmony with hysteria, the five-piece are not confined to the walls of sound, they ARE a wall of sound. Become ‘Submerged’ in Gaerea’s savage ‘Stardust’.
