It’s been 10 years since Bootleg Rascal (otherwise known as Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young) dropped their seminal debut album Asleep In The Machine, and to celebrate, the Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based duo are releasing a deluxe edition of the record.
Set to arrive Friday 12 August, the deluxe edition of Asleep In The Machine will feature Spanish renditions of fan favourites ‘Drop The Gun’ and ‘Bones N Bricks’, an acoustic version of the title track and the previously unreleased ‘I’d Do Anything’.
Ahead of the album dropping, Bootleg Rascal have shared ‘Baja El Arma’, the Spanish version of ‘Drop The Gun’.
“‘Drop The Gun’ has been a staple in our live sets for a decade now, but singing it in Español completely changes the flavour,” says frontman Lara. “It's something I've always wanted to do to bring a bit of my own heritage into the Bootleg Rascal repertoire.”
The track is accompanied by a music video that incorporates parts of the original music video. As Lara explains, “The clip features footage from the original 'Drop The Gun' music video, which was famously shot in a hot-air balloon. Since I sing in Spanish for this new version, it made perfect sense to re-shoot my performance parts. Ultimately, we loved the idea of blending the old and new footage together to bridge the track's past and present.”
