Ahead of the release of their seventh album Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, out Friday 11 September on their newly formed record label cOnTAGIOUS LTD/Mushroom Music, Bloc Party have dropped the album’s second single, ‘Love Bombs’.
It’s another interesting release from the indie favourites, with tempo changes and snazzy synths wrapped up around frontman Kele Okereke’s familiar vocals.
“At the start of a new relationship our feelings of connection can make us do dramatic things,” Okereke says of the track.
“‘Love Bombs’ is the sound of a new love flowering, in beautiful romantic gestures. But under the surface is the ever present fear that maybe this new love, although shiny and great, maybe this new love might not last forever.”
Anatomy Of A Brief Romance follows 2022’s Alpha Games and comprises 14 tracks exploring the highs and lows of a relationship – from the giddy first meeting through to the unfortunate breakdown.
Speaking about the Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood) produced album, Okereke says, “Every lyric you're hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish.”

One of several bands to emerge during the UK’s indie heyday of the early ‘00s, Bloc Party have managed to stay relevant over the past two decades.
Making their mark with their acclaimed 2005 debut album, Silent Album, which debuted at #3 on the UK Albums Chart, Bloc Party have released a further five LPs, four of which made the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart.
Despite the loss of original members Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong, the current lineup of vocalist and guitarist Kele Okereke and guitarist and programmer Russell Lissack, joined by bassist Harry Deacon and drummer Louise Bartle, continue to tour the globe and release fan-pleasing new music.
