Crown & Anchor named SA’s Best Live Music Venue
The award is a fitting recognition of the Cranker’s place in the SA live music ecosystem.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for local favourite Crown & Anchor in 2024. Developers threatened to tear down the watering hole but the community rallied, and thanks to the hard work of the Save the Cranker team, the pub’s future as a live music venue was secured.
Now the Cranker’s impact on the local live music scene has been rightfully recognised with the pub taking out the Best Live Music Venue gong at the 2024 Australian Hotels Association SA Awards for Excellence.
This comes off the back of the Cranker being inducted into the SA Music Hall of Fame earlier this year.
In a statement posted on the Cranker’s Instagram account, the pub’s proprietor Tom Skipper said: "We’re absolutely stoked to have won ‘Best Live Music Venue’ at the AHASA awards. It’s a huge recognition of the hard work our team has put in to keep live music alive and thriving in Adelaide.
We’ve always prided ourselves on being a space where both up-and-coming artists and established acts can perform, and this award really solidifies that commitment.
It’s an exciting time for the Cranker as we look toward even bigger things ahead.”

Although the Cranker has been saved due to new regulations passed in parliament, it will be forced to close for two years while the site adjacent to the pub is developed into student accommodation.
Skip and his team are currently in the process of securing a temporary new location so the Cranker can continue to provide a space for live music in SA during the construction process.
