DEM MOB have released several eargasmic singles over the past 12 months, but their latest release ‘Break Bread’ is hands down their best effort yet.
A classic hip hop beat lays the foundation for a powerful song with lyrics addressing reconciliation and how the smallest act of conversation and forgiveness can help unite the nation.
“‘Break Bread’ is about unity!” the group posted on social media. “Sitting together, sharing stories, and really listening.
“It’s bigger than food, it’s trust, culture, family, survival. No matter where you come from or what you’ve been through, there’s power in connection. Community is the medicine.”
Following the previously released singles ‘Suit Vibes’ and ‘Dreams’, ‘Break Bread’ gives each member of DEM MOB the chance to shine and continues the group’s evolution as artists.
In the space of just four years, DEM MOB have risen from emerging newcomers to performing on international stages.
Rapping in both English and Pitjantjatjara, the group have released a slew of singles, toured alongside Regurgitator, Seth Sentry and BARKAA and performed at festivals including WOMADelaide, Primavera Sound (Barcelona) and SXSW Sydney.
DEM MOB have also won countless awards, including 10 South Australian Music Awards in just three years, including Best Hip Hop Act, Best Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Artist, Best Music Educators (twice) and Best Regional Artist three years running. The group have been awarded the APRA Emily Burrows Award and the Helpmann Academy’s Elise Ross Prize.
While there’s been no official word on when DEM MOB’s debut album is coming out, songs like ‘Break Bread’ make us hope the wait isn’t too much longer.
