Meet Wave Raiders – your new favourite band! Following the release of their 2024 debut single ‘Fun’ and follow-up tracks ‘A Punk Rock Christmas’ (a super collab with Sarah McLeod from The Superjesus) and ‘Don’t Wanna Be Late’, the neo-surf psych rockers are back with another slamming track, ‘My Way’.

The latest from the trio of Peter De Waard, Thomas De Waard and Jayden Georg takes influence from some of the country’s best rock acts, including The Chats, Silverchair, and The Screaming Jets. Written by all three with production from renowned UK producer Steve James (The Angels, Cold Chisel, Skunkhour, The Screaming Jets), ‘My Way’ is a pub punk rock threeway with DIY attitude.

Recorded at Red Engine Studios in Brisbane and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301, the song is about finding your own identity. “A lot of rules and artificial barriers have been put in front of us in the music industry due to our ages, but we’re not going to let them stop us. We just want to make good music and get out there and play live," said lead guitarist and vocalist De Waard.

Despite their age (all three are in their early teens), Wave Raiders have already performed at Bluesfest Byron Bay and Airlie Beach Festival of Music and count Spiderbait and The Superjesus as fans.

Speaking about their first big gig at Caloundra Music Festival, the band shared this tale, “At 10-12 years old, we formed Wave Raiders, and one of our goals was to play at the Caloundra Music Festival in our hometown. We devised a plan for the final night of the festival. We smuggled a sign into the venue and waited for hours at the front of the mosh pit for Spiderbait to perform, and held up a sign asking them if we could play ‘Calypso’ with them.

“We had practiced ‘Calypso’ about ten times that day, and when Spiderbait called us up, from the side stage, Janet checked with us that we could actually play ‘Calypso’, and we reassured her that we could. We jumped up on the main stage and, much to the shock of the 10,000 fans, we nailed it!”

With a string of awesome singles under their belt and the world at their feet, Wave Raiders are a band you’ll be hearing a lot more from in the coming years.

‘My Way’ by Wave Raiders is out now.
