After pleasing fans earlier this week with the release of a solo performance of his deep cut ‘Silver & Gold’, Neil Young has returned to his grumpy ways and pulled out of Glastonbury 2025.
Posting on his website, Young revealed he and his band The Chrome Hearts will no longer be performing at the festival due to Young believing the festival has sold out by partnering with the BBC.
“The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all time favourite outdoor gigs,” the statement reads.
“We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being. Thanks for coming to see us last time!
“We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn – off, and not for me like it used to be.”

It’s an interesting take from Young, especially considering the BBC has been involved with Glastonbury for years. In fact, the last time Young performed at the festival in 2009, his performance was televised live by the BBC.
Young dropping off the festival bill means Rod Stewart is the only announced name for the 2025 edition of Glastonbury thus far, with the famous crooner locked in to play the Sunday evening legend slot.
Although he won’t be appearing at Glasto, Young and The Chrome Hearts will be performing shows across the US and Europe later this year in support of their forthcoming album, Talkin To The Trees.
