Last year saw the monster reissue of Metallica’s hit 1996 album Load, with the Limited Edition Box Set featuring an unbelievable 301 tracks, 245 of which had never been released!
Now the thrash rock pioneers are preparing the release of Reload, a remastered reissue of their Load follow-up.
Originally released in 1997, the album is composed of tracks written and recorded during the Load sessions that were overseen by producer Bob Rock. Despite a mixed response from critics, Reload topped the Billboard 200 and produced the hit singles ‘Fuel’, ‘The Unforgiven II’ and ‘The Memory Remains’.
Reload is also notable for being the first Metallica album to feature a guest singer, with the late, great Marianne Faithfull appearing on ‘The Memory Remains’, and the final Metallica album to feature bassist Jason Newsted.
Dropping Friday 26 June via Blackened Recordings, Reload Remastered has been remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering with Greg Fidelman overseeing things. The album will be released on 180g 2LP, CD, 3CD expanded edition, cassette and digital, along with a huge Deluxe Box Set that is a must for diehard fans.
The Limited Edition Box Set has more extras than you can poke a stick at, with unreleased demos, live performances, rough mixes and more. Each set is individually numbered and includes the remastered Reload album on 180g double vinyl, a ‘The Memory Remains’ 7”, a 140g triple album recorded live and 15 CDs chock full of B-sides, rarities, demos and live material.
If that’s not enough, the set also includes four DVDS, a pack of 13 Rorschach Test cards, an 11”x17” “Gimme Fuel” poster, a sticker, a Pushead print, a 10-pack of guitar/bass picks, lyric sheets, three laminated tour passes and a deluxe 128-page book with never-before-seen photos and stories.
