Emerging LA-based Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jack Gray has announced the release of his debut album, Swimming In Jeans, out Friday 4 September via Island Records Australia.
Swimming In Jeans was written over three years and produced almost entirely by Gray, with his 12-track debut a snapshot of life in your early twenties. The record also sees Gray experimenting with his sound.
“With this record, I just wanted to put the blinders on and trust my gut,” he shares.
Quiely gaining momentum over the past 12 months with singles ‘Dumb Sh*t’’, ‘Drive Her Home’, ‘Bluffin’, and ‘Tattoos’ (co-written with Peach PRC), Gray’s latest taste of Swimming Jeans is the heartbreaking ‘Look At You’, which delves into infidelity and its repercussions.
“‘Look At You’ came from a story a friend shared with me, it’s that moment where everything changes - when someone tells you the truth and you’re left dealing with what comes next,” says Gray.
The single is accompanied by a music video that reunites Gray with longtime collaborators The Matthews Brothers and was produced by The Brilliant Collective and Jillian Shea Spaeder.
Born and raised in Mackay, Queensland, Jack Gray currently resides in Los Angeles, where he has spent the past 12 months crafting his debut album. In between writing and touring, Gray has composed a couple of indie film scores, collaborated with other artists as a producer and writer and has written songs for emerging K-pop acts.
Gray has toured across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada alongside the likes of Tate McRae, Matt Corby, Maisie Peters, Maren Morris, Jeremy Zucker, Daniel Seavey and most recently Good Neighbours.
Next month, he heads to Southeast Asia for a promotional tour, with more shows to be announced to coincide with the release of Swimming In Jeans.
