Foo Fighters Return with Anthemic Rocker ‘Today’s Song’
‘Today’s Song’ is the first taste of new Foo’s since 2023’s eleventh studio album, But Here We Are.

It’s been a tumultuous 12 months for American rock band Foo Fighters.
After frontman Dave Grohl admitted to fathering a child outside of his marriage in September 2024, the band went on an indefinite hiatus. Then, in May of this year, they surprisingly dumped drummer Josh Freese after just two years, with rumours swirling that Shane Hawkins, the son of former stickman Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in 2022, would be taking over.
The band seem to have put all that controversy behind them as they embark on a new chapter of their career with the release of new single, ‘Today’s Song’.
Their first release since 2023 is everything you’d expect from a Foo’s song, with a surging chorus, grungy guitars and uplifting lyrics. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but ‘Today’s Song’ is sure to please those who like big, bold rock numbers.
The track, which celebrates the Foo Fighters’ 30th anniversary, is accompanied by a letter Grohl wrote addressing the band’s history. You can read an excerpt below and check out the full prose here.
"Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone.
"It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.
"And... Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivalled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. FOO FIGHTERS will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination."
