Portugal black metal phenomena GAEREA are heading to Australia for the very first time this July.
The mask-wearing ensemble, who also dress in all black with their distinct sigil occupying the space where their faces should be, are known for their ear-shattering live performances that are both atmospheric and cathartic, despite the power of their sound.
GAEREA’s debut Australian tour arrives in support of their upcoming album Loss, which is out Friday March 20.
The band have locked in five shows across the space of a week, kicking their tour off in Perth at Amplifier Bar on Tuesday 7 July. Shows follow at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Thursday 9 July, Melbourne’s Max Watts on Friday 10 July and Brisbane’s Crowbar on Saturday 11 July, with the final concert taking place at Sydney’s Crowbar on Sunday 12 July.

Britain’s Metal Hammer said this about GAEREA’s 2024 album Coma: “When they put their cloaked heads down, GAEREA indubitably delivers the goods. The dizzying speed and masterful changes in [songs like] 'World Ablaze' are majestic.”
