In the lead-up to the release of their highly anticipated new album Ultra Dundee, out Friday 20 March via Gutto Records (pre-order here), Bad//Dreems are curating their own two-day festival, Gather Sounds.
Inspired by the band’s love of footy, Gather Sounds takes place Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April across the Gather Round weekend at Adelaide Uni Cloisters and UniBar.
Not only are hometown heroes Bad//Dreems performing, but they’ll be joined by their good mates Beddy Rays, Phil Jamieson, West Thebarton, Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys, Dr. Piffle & The Burlap Band, The Empty Threats, Jack Griffith, Don’t Thank Me Spank Me and more.
“Gather Round has been great for Adelaide, and we saw it as a unique opportunity to spotlight and celebrate local and independent music,” says guitarist Alex Cameron.
The Friday will feature Bad//Dreems officially launching their fifth album Ultra Dundee with support from West Thebarton. On Saturday night, the venue will expand to include two stages, with Bad//Dreems playing a greatest hits set and classic Aussie covers, alongside headliners Beddy Rays and Phil Jamieson. Tickets are on sale now via baddreems.com.
The announcement of Gather Sounds coincides with the release of Bad//Dreems’ latest single, ‘Irish Airman’.
Discussing the track, songwriter Cameron says, “‘Irish Airman’ is inspired by the WB Yeats poem An Irish Airman Foresees His Death. An initial recording was made during the Lockdown with John Lee, an amazing producer who has made great albums with artists like Lost Animal and Laura Jean. As is often the case, we found it hard to replicate what was captured on this recording, so we ended up using many elements of it, in addition to what we recorded in Adelaide at Mixmasters.”
The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Kaius Potter and is the third instalment in a four-part film series based around the character Ultra Dundee, played by Bad//Dreems vocalist Ben Marwe. Check it out below.
