Gearing up for the release of their sixth studio album, Tripping Over Time, which arrives this Friday 12 December (pre-order here), Boy & Bear have announced three special shows, including a concert at Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide.
The indie folk will perform tracks from their new album along with fan favourites on Saturday 2 May, with support coming from the recently reformed Cloud Control, who put on a cracking performance at this Harvest Rock.
Taking to Instagram to announce the show, Boy & Bear posted about their connection to the City of Churches.
“Little-known fact for all of you from Adelaide. Dave spent a bunch of years as a kid living in your fine city. His little sister was even born in Adelaide. In fact, we all have a pretty deep connection to the place. Maybe it’s that we all love wine and great pubs.
“Whatever it is, we love coming to Adelaide and we’re coming back. The Thebby has been renovated since we last played it and we thought why not see what it sounds like? Aaaaand to make it even more special, we’re bringing along some old friends. Cloud Control will be our very special guests for this show. We remember watching these legends when we had just started as a band and loving their records. They’ve been doing other things for a while but they are back and we are truly honoured to have them.”
Along with Adelaide, Boy & Bear are playing Fremantle’s Arts Centre South Lawn on Friday 1 May, Brisbane’s Riverstage on Friday 8 May and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Friday 15 May.
Tickets for all four shows go on sale on Tuesday 16 December at 9am AEDT via boyandbear.com.

Tripping Over Time is Boy & Bear’s sixth album and second released independently. Featuring the singles ‘Tripping Over Time’, ‘Where Does Life Begin’, ‘Vertigo’, ‘Lost Control’ and ‘Roses’, the album addresses themes of love, death and self-reflection.
Speaking on the record, vocalist and guitarist Dave Hosking says, “The record predominantly is about how time changes us. We grow up, our priorities shift, our lives move onto new chapters and with this comes new insights but also new challenges. It’s a balancing act of reflecting or even yearning for our youth whilst also embracing life as it inevitably moves forward. So, I think the record's emotional core is really about finding peace in who we are and who we’ve become. It’s about self-growth.
“It’s about the subtle lessons of life. You often don’t realise you’ve gone through something until you experience it. You’re always learning and stumbling forward, embracing the cyclic nature of life. There’s playfulness in all the crazy moments. The overall feeling is optimistic, nostalgic, and reflective.”
