The Strokes have revealed they have a new album on the way, with the New York indie rockers’ seventh record, Reality Awaits, set for a mid-year release.

The band shared a video on social media to announce their first album in six years. Coming across as an ad from the ‘80s, the video features a Nissan 300ZX with the tagline “In the Flesh, it’s Even Sexier.” The promo vid also features music that may be from a new Strokes tune, along with a release date – “this summer”.

The news arrives ahead of The Strokes’ appearance at Coachella this weekend, their first time back to the Empire Polo Club since headlining the festival in 2011.

Still one of the biggest rock acts on the planet, The Strokes’ last album, 2020’s The New Abnormal, was produced by Rick Rubin and considered by many fans and critics as a return to form for the band and the disappointment of 2013’s Comedown Machine.

The New Abnormal topped the US Billboard Top Album Sales, Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums Charts and spawned two top 10 singles – ‘Bad Decision’ and ‘Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus’.

Last in Australia as headliners of Harvest Rock 2025, we had this to say about their headline performance: “[The Strokes] did not disappoint and gave me (and every other fan) exactly what I wanted – nearly 80 minutes of indie bangers that reminded me why I love music.”

The Strokes’ new album, Reality Awaits, is due out later this year.
