Pixies are back with the first taste of new music in two years, dropping new song ‘You’re So Impatient’ and a cover of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans’ ‘Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)’.
These are also the first tracks to feature Pixies’ new bassist Emma Richardson, who replaces the departed Paz Lenchantin. Richardson was formerly a member of Band of Skulls for the past decade and had been touring with the Pixies since Lenchantin left, taking up the offer to become a full-time member of the band earlier this year.
In a statement about their new tune, Pixies frontman Black Francis said, “‘You’re So Impatient’ is a slightly comedic suburban culture moment: There’s this guy; there’s this gal; there’s this tug-of-love dynamic going on. But the backdrop is the mall. And while the mall is crass, it’s also a very zombie, rock’n’roll horror movie setting.”
You can listen to ‘You’re So Important’ and ‘Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)’ below.
‘You’re So Important’ is a fun little rock song while Pixies’ cover of ‘Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)’ is a much more brooding take on the tune that was also a number one hit for Australian singer Normie Rowe in 1965.
