Aussie fav Julia Jacklin has announced her return with new single ‘Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)’, the first taste of her upcoming fourth studio album, The Gem, out Friday 25 September via her new label, 4AD.
The record takes its name from the famous pub and live music venue in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. Produced by Jacklin and Robert Muinos (Camp Cope, Didirri, Little May) at Rat Shack studios above the pub, the record features Jacklin’s close friends and collaborators across the 10 tracks.
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Jacklin said in press materials about the album.
“The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something.”
The first single taken from The Gem is ‘Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)’, an upbeat three-minute jam featuring Jacklin’s ethereal vocals over a gently strummed guitar.

Arguably one of Australia’s finest songwriters of the 21st century, Jacklin’s The Gem follows 2022’s Pre Pleasure, which debuted at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and took home the ARIA for Best Adult Contemporary Album.
The last few years have seen Jacklin share the single ‘Shivers’ (2023) and Faye Webster duet ‘Good Guy’ (2024), while also reforming her band Phantastic Ferniture and touring nationally.
The release of The Gem coincides with a run of shows across North America in October and November, before Jacklin heads to Europe in February 2027.
Hopefully an Aussie tour is on the horzion.
