Newcastle-based three-piece Trophy Wyfe have been announced as the winners of triple j's Unearthed High 2026.
The group of Rex Wardle (guitar, vocals), Tallis Kessell (drums) and Neve Scully (bass) found out they had won when triple j Breakfast hosts Concetta and Luka crashed the band’s school assembly just seconds after they performed their winning track ‘Spiders’.
The win comes as the indie rockers navigate their final years of high school and prepare for the release of their debut album, set to drop later this year.
This year’s Unearthed High had over 1,000 entries from high school-aged artists across the country, with the triple j Unearthed team digging through each submission, listening to every single track and selecting a stack of entries for airplay on triple j.
Every year uncovers incredible Aussie acts, and this year was no exception, with the finalists including Alli Kate, Lithu, TwoSeventy and Zoevi.
As part of their prize, Trophy Wyfe chose Genesis Owusu as their Unearthed High prize mentor, with the two artists soon getting together in the studio for a special songwriting session.

This year also saw TooLa, aka 16-year-old Biripi student Tyler Saunders, taking out the Indigenous Initiative with his self-produced trap hybrid ‘Float’.
Not only does he get the prestige of winning the award, but Saunders’ prize also includes the opportunity to have his next track mixed by Eric J Dubowsky, an award-winning producer and engineer known for his work with artists like Flume, Chet Faker and Tame Impala.
