Just a few months out from the release of Holding Absence’s fourth album, Modern Life Is Lonely, out Friday 28 August via Sumerian Records, the dynamic three-piece have shared their latest single, ‘Lucid Love’.
Lyrically, the track explores a long-distance relationship and continues Holding Absence’s sonic experimentation.
“Lucid Love is our most extreme foray into hyperpop yet,” shares Lucas Woodland. “We had an absolute blast experimenting with new sonic textures and ideas while working to marry them to the already existing HA sound, and we’re so pleased with the outcome.”
“Lyrically, the song is about a long-distance relationship where the two of you can only meet in your dreams. I really leaned into that imagery, treating the dreamland almost as a portal between you. This song takes a newer, more candid and modern approach to lyrics than I’m used to, while still aiming for something timeless and relatable.”
Produced by Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker, Fit For A King), Modern Life Is Lonely introduces Y4-BBO, a character created by the band to help explore the album's themes of isolation and disconnect.
