Adelaide Fringe is hitting the road in 2026, bringing its Immersive Worlds’ centrepiece, The Dome – a 360-degree cinema – to Mount Gambier and Whyalla as part of its regional program.
A collaboration with Adelaide University, The Dome Touring Partner, sees Mount Gambier host the first Dome sessions of the 2026 season with a pre-season run at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre from Saturday 7 to Friday 13 February, ahead of its Adelaide Fringe opening on Tuesday 17 February.
Once the Adelaide program is complete, The Dome heads to Whyalla, setting up shop at Middleback Arts Centre from Friday 27 March to Monday 6 April, with support from the Drought Relief Regional Event Fund.
The Dome is aimed at all ages and offers attendees an immersive 360-degree cinema experience as stories unfold above and around The Dome, including deep-sea worlds, space voyages, science adventures and music-led experiences.
Thousands of tickets are on sale now for just $5 for both the Whyalla and Mount Gambier events. Local audiences can purchase $5 tickets by entering the promo code ADELAIDEUNIMTG for Mount Gambier shows or ADELAIDEUNIWHY for Whyalla shows at checkout on any eligible performance at adelaidefringe.com.au.

Adelaide Fringe Acting CEO, Tara MacLeod, said, “Bringing The Dome to the regions is about making sure experiences of this scale are not city-only. Immersive Worlds is a brand new signature initiative for 2026, and the regional touring program means families, young people and visitors can step into something spectacular in their own town. This is exactly what Fringe in the regions is about, taking ambitious work to where people live, creating a reason to gather, and delivering the kind of ‘you have to see this’ experience that stays with you long after you walk back outside.”
Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice Chancellor – International and External Engagement at Adelaide University, said, “Adelaide University is proud to be supporting The Dome as Touring Partner, helping bring a world-class immersive experience to Mount Gambier and Whyalla – home to two of our major regional campuses. This partnership is about expanding access to live arts and culture, creating opportunities for regional communities to gather and participate, and making sure students, families and local audiences can experience something extraordinary close to home. We are committed to backing creativity, encouraging cultural engagement in the regions, and supporting initiatives that build aspiration and belonging across South Australia.”
The Dome takes over Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre in Mount Gambier from Saturday 7 to Friday 13 February and Middleback Arts Centre in Whyalla from Friday 27 March to Monday 6 April. Tickets on sale now at adelaidefringe.com.au.
