Boujee on a Budget: Adelaide’s Best Cheap Eats

‘Cheap eats’ doesn’t always mean ‘downmarket’. Check out these style-savvy budget pleasers.

Masa

There’s no better pairing than a Tuesday and some tacos. Masa is the Mexican-inspired street food component at Bowden Brewing’s industrial venue, where you can chow down on three tacos for $15 or one for $7. Their house-made corn tortillas are paired with fillings like beer-battered crispy fish and chipotle-glazed oyster mushrooms. Drink deals are just as good: $7 pints of Cerveza, $10 margs and $20 jugs of sangria. Ay caramba!

Africola Canteen

Try the tasty flavours of cult-favourite restaurant Africola but in a grab ‘n’ go format with nothing over $20. Africola Canteen is the new lunch spot for the Eastern suburbs working crowd, offering a deceptively simple, always yummy and ever-changing menu that’s split into ‘Salad’ and ‘Not salad’. Most importantly, these lunch saviours will spare you the indignity of tin can tuna. Previous highlights have included a hot porchetta roll, potato salad with charred jalapenos and Minestra Fagioli.

Pastel Wine Bar

Head to North Adelaide’s Pastel Wine Bar for the ultimate mid-week date night. Allow us to set the scene… For $45 per person, you’ll be treated to a half bottle of wine and three courses, including warmed olives and whipped ricotta to start, a plate of pasta for mains, and house-made ice cream for sweets. Served in the warmly-lit, timbertoned bar, it’s cool enough to treat your honey without breaking the bank.

Bar Lune

Noods and Negronis are sexy and satisfying! For the month of July, Bar Lune has welcomed back its epic Wednesday night meal deal at their neighbourhood wine bar. It’s the perfect mid-week pick-me-up for those who have the hump day blues. Slurp on a delicious bowl of noodles (ramen and dan-dan noodles are fan favourites) and a bitter blend of Italian aperitivo for $35. Not bad, considering the price of a Negroni can fetch above $20…
