Meet Pinco Italo – the brand-new Italian eatery from the brains of local food royalty Saba Maghsoudi and Elijah Makris. Opening in February as the sister store to the two Pinco Deli stores, this restaurant confirms that all good things come in threes. Think mouth-watering fresh focaccia sandwiches stuffed with salami, ricotta, pistachio, and chilli honey, and gnocchi lathered with rich cheese, pepper, and prosciutto. Whether you’re craving a quick feed or a sit-down dinner, Pinco Italo has you covered, with their simplistic menu of antipasti, pasta, sandwiches, and desserts. Cocktails, live jazz nights, Italian meals, and crayons on tables? I’ll meet you there.

Mala Town

Winter is well and truly upon us here in SA, but we can stay warm thanks to Mala Town and their delicious noodles, broths and laksas. Hot Pot just got a whole lot hotter with their huge selection of ingredients, ensuring every time you DIY your bowl, it is exactly to your tastes. Think spicy mala broths, fried chicken noodles, steamed dumplings, and the ability to customise each of these dishes with ingredients like mushrooms, bok choy, fried egg and scallops. A great way to fill your bellies before heading to a show.

Bringing classy light fast-food bites to Hindley Street is Malaysian-born owner Anjelin Lim’s mission. Any Insta baddies looking for their morning caffeine and a delicious lunch are in luck with this brand-new, earthy café. Think sandos packed with chicken katsu, crab salad and seasonal fruits, pickle onigiri, herb covered shoestring chips and stunning Japanese caffeinated beverages. This menu truly has something for everyone.

Shmochi

Enter Shmochi: the dessert parlour of your dreams – pink, red and sugar all over. Owned by sweet tooth connoisseurs Lisa Chao, Thy Nguyen, and Quang Nguyen, responsible for countless delectable dessert bars, cafes, and eateries in SA. Their signature gluten-free mochi doughnuts alone put Shmochi on the map (which you may have been lucky enough to snag a bite of at a festival recently), but their dreamlike ice-creams are what keeps you coming back. We’re talking Earl Grey and strawberry, coconut and kaya caramel, ube cookies and cream, matcha strawberry and Vietnamese coffee and condensed milk (yes, these are all ice cream flavours). Yum.

This intimate 20-seat restaurant was created by Enrico Sgarbossa, a multi-award-winning chef and former flour technician in Italy, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and simplicity.
