Gilbert Street Hotel is best described as a calm, atmospheric pub, with open-air dining, greenery and the occasional live music set. But their Buffalo Wings menu, especially their ‘suicide wings’, can be best described as red-hot agony. Dubbed ‘the OG buffalo wings of Adelaide’, these fiery bites have their own dedicated socials and a private Facebook group with strict Fight Club rules. ‘1st rule: you do not talk about WING CLUB. 2nd rule: you DO NOT talk about WING CLUB’. Preorder only on Wednesday and Thursday nights if you dare.

Where: 88 Gilbert St, Adelaide.

Oh! Calcutta

Fiery flavours are the name of the game at Oh! Calcutta, where traditional Indian dishes come with serious heat. Try their infamous Chicken Vindaloo, described on their menu as “hot and spicy accompanied with pain and suffering”. Pair it with Chilli, cheese and garlic naan, Chilli chicken, or upgrade your curry to their ‘Zindaloo’, labelled as “extra extra hot for those who don’t feel pain”, and you’ve got a feast that’s as warming as it is tear-inducing.

Where: 171 Main S Rd, Morphett Vale

Pranee Thai

A calmer option for those of you looking for a mouth burner in company that’s not so eager to revel in the chilli. Pranee Thai, a family-owned restaurant in Brighton, serves an unassuming yet deadly Green Chicken Curry – chicken and bamboo shoots simmered in a green chilli coconut sauce with basil and capsicum. It’s a silent killer, known to leave even chilli veterans reaching for water. Want more fire? Just ask Pranee to throw in a bucket of chilli, and tell her we sent you.

Where: 296 Brighton Rd, North Brighton

Try their Hot and Spicy Beef Burger, Garlic Roll with crispy flatbread, Chicken Behari Tikka pieces and garlic mayo or their Chicken Behari Sandwich. All designed to do more than just tickle your taste buds.
