February 20 - Noteworthy New Releases

Our favourite releases of the week.

Altezza – ‘Falling Through (feat. elsorly)’

EDM duo ALTEZZA have teamed with emerging vocalist elsorliy for swirling, emotive electronic jam ‘Falling Through’. One for fans of Fred Again.., Four Tet and the like, this is a shimmering slice of euphoric house bonded by elsorliy’s swooning vocals, giving the song a joyous synth-pop vibe.

Sounds like: 3am in the club.

MACËY – ‘idontlikethewayyoulookatme’

Aussie hyperpunk trio MACËY return with another injection of stylised ‘90s grunge meets early ‘00s emo rap. Produced by Lachy Pitcher at Depict Studios, this brooding tale of the modern situationship is equal parts hopeful and bleak. B-side ‘Cheekbones’ is a palpitating rocker also worth checking out.

Sounds like: A situationship playing out in front of you.

Dropsink –‘End of Beginning’

It’s not often we highlight covers, but when they are as good as this, it’s hard not to show some love. DROPSINK have taken DJO’s sombre smash hit ‘End of Beginning’ and given it the indie rock treatment, crafting a taut guitar ballad that retains the soul of the original while adding an edge of difference. Bloody brilliant.

Sounds like: triple j Like a Version.

Mutuals – ‘Stay the Night’

Futuristic pop is all the rage these days, with newcomers MUTUALS offering their take on the genre with their second-ever release, ‘Stay The Night’. Clearly fans of Charli XCX, this track is two-and-a-half minutes of vibrant dance-pop ecstasy with dual male/female vocals and the type of beat that turns the dancefloor into a mass of sweaty bodies

Sounds like: Future pop Australia.
