June 12 – Noteworthy New Releases

Our favourite releases of the week.

Pearly Stars – The Greatest Gift EP

Adelaide’s alt-rock scene is overflowing with incredibly talented bands, including Pearly Stars. The trio have just dropped their awesome debut EP, The Greatest Gift, which features the previously released crowd pleaser ‘Sympathy’. Standouts include the moody opening track ‘Hiccups’ and the droning guitar buzz of ‘Dizzy’.

Sounds like: Weekend vibes.

Awnings – ‘Doggy Dog World’

Math rock is back in a big way in 2026 and we’re here for it. awnings’ sophomore single is a chaotically ferocious blast of intricate guitar playing and off-kilter signatures that will make your brain melt. At just under one and a half minutes long, ‘doggy dog world’ is way too short, leaving you wanting more. So, please awnings, can we have some more?

Sounds like: Battles hanging out with Minus the Bear.

aleksiah – Good On Paper EP

If it’s not already clear, aleksiah is the future of Australian pop. Since breaking through in 2022, the singer-songwriter has been an unstoppable force whose new EP, Good On Paper, is hands down her best release yet. Standout tracks include the finger clicking ‘Bullsh*t, Baby!’, energetic ‘Punch Drunk Love’ and bubblegum pop explosion ‘Be The Diva’.

Sounds like: The future.

Beyonce’s Fiancés – ‘1984’

Beyonce’s Fiancés want to take you back to 1984 with their latest track ‘1984’. A nostalgia-powered hit of synth punk energy with plenty of “woos”, references to Bruce Springsteen, Atari and The Breakfast Club and an anthemic hook, this song is everything great about ‘80s music wrapped up in a tight three minutes.

Sounds like: 1984.
