'Party Hard' is the second single taken from rock outfit Full Flower Moon Band's fourth studio album, After Dark, out Friday 26 February via Impressed Recordings.

Built around the line "you can’t say that you partied hard if it was easy", the track is a churning thunder of guitars wrapped in lyrics about the people who keep the music scene alive and don't often get the recognition they deserve.

"'Let's get forgiven' is my way of saying: ask for forgiveness, not permission, to live the life you want," says frontwoman  Kate "Babyshakes" Dillon. "That doesn’t make the hard parts disappear. It means reaching for someone’s hand and continuing together."

After Dark was written by Dillon during a month spent in New York after being awarded Q Music's Grant McLennan Fellowship. Hoping the bright lights of a big city would inspire a vibrant writing session, New York had other ideas. "I was expecting to be excited, then the excitement started falling away," Dillon says.

"I was photosynthesising the quality of light I was getting at the time into something that was not feeding me in the way I expected. So it turned into a much darker lived experience."

The album marks the first Dillon has made without her regular band in five years, instead working with Melbourne producer and drummer Jim Rindfleish

"I wasn't just recording, I was learning a new way of working," she says. "Jim stepped into a fragile body of work and a mood that I was still living inside of and masterfully steered it to shore. I was seen with new eyes and felt room to grow."

Dillon says After Dark is her most personal record yet: "I would say that I survived this album," she says. "I didn't make it from a triumphant place, but I made it."

After Dark follows Full Flower Moon Band's critically acclaimed 2024 record Megaflower, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, sold out its first vinyl pressing in a week and won The Triffid's Album of the Year.

Counting the likes of Fred Durst, Jack Black, Noel Fielding and Iggy Pop, who spun the band on BBC Radio 6 Music, as fans, Full Flower Moon Band are firmly established as one of the country's most rock outfits.

Ahead of the release of After Dark, fans can catch the band supporting Foo Fighters in Brisbane and Townsville in November and Powderfinger in Hobart and Brisbane next year, bringing new material and fan favourites to their biggest stages yet.
