The film festivals are coming thick and fast this winter, with the 2025 Hurtigruten Scandinavian Film Festival unveiling the first five highlights of its upcoming July program.
Held at Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas and Palace Nova Prospect Cinemas from July 23 to August 13, cinefiles can experience the best films from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland across three weeks.
This year’s festival captures a diverse lineup of award-winning flicks, box office smashes, and cult classics, highlighting a range of filmmakers and actors from across Scandinavia.
Ahead of the program’s official release later this month, organisers have revealed the first five films making up the 2025 program, including this year’s Special Presentation, Quisling: The Final Days (Quislings siste dager). The acclaimed drama from director Erik Poppe is set in 1945 Norway and follows the post-liberation trial of the country’s infamous and controversial head of state, Vidkun Quisling.
Also announced are the visually stunning Icelandic drama The Mountain (Fjallið), starring Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney, the daughter of singer Björk, and Danish-set medical drama Second Victims (Det andet offer).
Director Paula Korva makes his debut with Finnish comedy/drama Sudden Outbursts of Emotion (Kenraaliharjoitus), while Swedish flick Live a Little (Leva Lite) explores the relationship between two best friends as they couch surf across Europe.
The full program for the 2025 Hurtigruten Scandinavian Film Festival will be unveiled later this month.
