Phil Jamieson Cancels 'PJ Air' Tour Following On-Stage Accident

The Grinspoon frontman fractured his L1 vertebra on stage last week.

Aussie larkin and Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson has done himself a mischief, injuring himself on stage, resulting in the cancellation of his PJ Air tour.

Currently halfway through the massive tour, which hit Adelaide in July, Jamieson fractured his L1 vertebra on stage last week and is unable to continue performing.

Taking to social media to announce the news, Jamieson released the below statement:

“On Friday night I slipped on stage and my spine connected to the drum riser. I was unable to continue with the gig and got an ambulance to Latrobe Hospital. I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc, and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 (lower back guy), with a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery. This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled :(

"Venues/ticketing agencies should be in contact with you for refunds. No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment.

"ALBUM is still out on Friday. While we won’t be launch partying together anymore...if you feel like wrapping your earholes around it, I would be grateful. Lots of work went into it and I love it.

"Thanks to all who reached out. News travels fast in this game and I appreciate all the well-wishes and kind offers of help. A big thank you to all of team at Latrobe Regional Hospital who took such elite care of me, including my paramedics Renae & James, and my discharge nurse Andrew.
I hope to see you all soon. Love, PJ in my pjs for the foreseeable future x."

Venues and ticketing agencies will be in touch with ticketholders to issue refunds.

It's devastating news not only for Phil, but also the fans who miss out on seeing him live. The one shining light is that his hotly anticipated sophomore album, 10CHARLIE, is still dropping this Friday 14 August.

The album features the singles 'Weekends', 'Blue As The Sunlight' and 'Reading Keats In Byron Bay' and is Jamieson's most personal work to date.

Produced by Oscar Dawson, 10CHARLIE features collaborations with Sophie Ozard, Davey Lane, Rob Muinos and Ben Edgar.

"I feel a mix of trepidation and heightened anxiety with the release of 10CHARLIE," Jamieson shares of the upcoming release. "I find this true of most releases, though. I don’t know of any artist who doesn’t feel that way.

"This album is much more personal than the first record. In times of intense turbulence, I've written what I've needed to hear. It's a balm for my soul, especially songs that were written after my friend passed away ('Blue As The Sunlight', 'Reading Keats' and 'Eager Beaver'). They ended up in the mix in the last three months or so, and whilst they're quite happy in a sonic manner, there's some lyrical stuff there that means a lot to me. 'The Soft Return' is meditative and long; it's something I can drift into. For better or worse, it's intimate because it’s what I needed for myself."

For now, Phil’s plans involve plenty of rest, recovery and, in his own words, being "PJ in my pjs" for the foreseeable future.
