Laneway Festival Skipping Adelaide and Perth in 2027

Bad news for Adelaide and Perth music lovers: Laneway Festival is skipping the two capital cities in 2027.

After a couple of huge years that saw pop superstars Charli xcx and Chappell Roan headline the iconic festival, organisers have decided to scale back the touring festival.

Next year the long-running event will take place in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane – following a one-year diversion on the Gold Coast – and Auckland.

Dates and lineup will be announced in the coming months, but the absence of Adelaide and Perth is a major blow to Australia's live music sector, particularly the festival state, which is a UNESCO City of Music.

Organisers released a statement pointing to the logistical demands of the festival being the major reasons for scaling down in 2027.

"To our Adelaide and Perth friends, we know this will be disappointing. In 2027, Laneway will be taking a break in your cities," organisers said in a statement posted to Instagram.

"For over two decades, we've had the pleasure of bringing Laneway to Australia and New Zealand, with stints in Singapore and Detroit too. Running so many shows, so close together, across so much ground is a logistical feat we are proud of, but it also asks a lot of our lineup and crew.

"Taking a pause allows us to focus on making the festival the best it can be, while freeing up time for more artists to bring headline shows to cities beyond our festival stops.

"Adelaide and Perth, we love you! We are incredibly grateful to every single person who has shown up for us over the years.

"This isn’t goodbye, just see you soon. More info on Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland coming soon, stay tuned!"
