Moonlight Cinema has revealed its packed program for January next year, which includes the return of fan-favourite Shrek as part of this summer’s People’s Program.
The January program includes the summer blockbuster Wicked: For Good, the children’s film Zootopia 2 and the Jack Black and Paul Rudd comedy Anaconda. There will also be preview screenings of Song Sung Blue, Hamnet and Six the Musical.
To mark its 30th birthday, Moonlight Cinema is also giving cinephiles the chance to vote for the classic films they want to see back on the big screen. Voting closes on Monday 15 December, with almost 6,500 film lovers already having had their say.
So far, kids’ classic Shrek is number one in every city and has been picked by more than one-third of all voters. Coming in a close second is The Great Showman, which stars Hugh Jackman, while Adelaide film lovers are voting in numbers for a sing-along screening og Mamma Mia.
“For three decades, Moonlight Cinema has been a quintessential summer ritual for millions of Australians,” says John Boero, General Manager of Entertainment Operations, EVT. “To mark this milestone, we wanted to do something special for the audiences who’ve made us part of their summer traditions. The People’s Program gives fans the chance to help shape the season and enjoy their most-loved films - under the stars, where Moonlight magic happens.”
