After record-breaking seasons in London and New York, the award-winning Heathers the Musical is making its Australian debut in April 2026, with pre-sales for select shows on sale now.
Based on the cult 1989 film of the same name, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical is produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor-Mills, in partnership with GMG Productions and Stoddart Entertainment.
The musical follows a similar plot to the film, with new Westerberg High student Veronica Sawyer joining the Heathers, a clique of girls who all share the name. But when she meets the mysterious teen rebel J.D., who has nefarious plans for his fellow students, Veronica’s world is turned upside down.
Described by the Sunday Express as “High School Musical’s darker, dirtier cousin,” Heathers the Musical features songs written by award-winning writers Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde The Musical). The production is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman and features choreography from associate director Gary Lloyd and set and costume design by David Shields.
Heathers the Musical takes over Melbourne’s Arts Centre Playhouse from 8 April before performances at Adelaide’s Her Majesty’s Theatre from 16 July, Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts from 30 July, Canberra’s Theatre Centre from 14 August, Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre and Coliseum Theatre from 2 September and Perth’s Regal Theatre from 30 September.
As for pre-sales, tickets are now on sale for the Sydney shows via heathersthemusical.com. For the remaining shows, pre-sale tickets will be available in a few weeks. Pre-sales for the Melbourne performances go on sale from 20 October at 9am, Perth, Gold Coast, and Canberra pre-sales follow from 21 October at 10am and Adelaide from 4 November at 9am. The remainder of the tickets will go live on 16 October in Sydney, 23 October in Melbourne, Gold Coast, Canberra and Perth, and 6 November in Adelaide.

“We are beyond excited to announce that Heathers the Musical is coming to Australia and New Zealand next year,” says director Andy Fickman. “We can’t wait to share this twistedly heartfelt story with audiences down under. It’s a show that deals with love, heartache, sadness, defying expectations and being true to yourself.
“Ever since its premiere, Heathers the Musical has been a labour of love for Larry, Kevin and me but what’s truly thrilling is how much audiences take this show to their hearts. So, get out your scrunchies and break out the Corn Nuts and join us at Westerberg High for Big Fun next year!”
After selling out both the Los Angeles premiere in 2013 and the New York debut in 2014, Heathers the Musical has become a mainstay on the West End for the past decade, selling out tours across the UK and Ireland.
Heathers the Musical’s Australian debut next year is shaping as one of the biggest theatre productions of 2026 and one musical lovers won’t want to miss!
