David Sedaris is a man of many talents who is bringing his new book, The Land and Its People, to stages across Australia and New Zealand in 2027.
Known as an author, humourist and master of satire, Sedaris’ writing is mainly autobiographical, charting everything from his middle-class upbringing to drug use and homosexuality.
Fresh from the release of The Land and Its People, a collection of stories and essays, Sedaris will take to the stage to read passages from the book, conduct a candid audience Q&A and even sign a few books for audience members.
Commencing in the nation’s capital on Thursday 14 January at the Canberra Theatre Centre, Sedaris then visits Regal Theatre in Perth on Friday 15 January, Norwood Concert Hall in Adelaide on Saturday 16 January, Theatre Royal in Hobart on Sunday 17 January, Sydney Opera House on Monday 18 January, Brisbane Powerhouse on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 January, and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January, before concluding the tour in St James Theatre in Wellington on Wednesday 27 January and Auckland Town Hall on Thursday 28 January.

Since the release of his first collection of stories, 1992’s Origins of the Underclass: And Other Stories, Sedaris has released over a dozen books and plays, with his latest, The Land and Its People, his first new essay collection since 2022’s Happy-Go-Lucky.
The book finds him reflecting on what it means to be a foreigner, a brother and a lifelong friend – all while looking after his partner Hugh, who went through a hip replacement during the writing of the book.
