Things of Stone and Wood return in 2026 with Rae Street (pre-order here), their first full-length studio album in 23 years.
Recorded at home in Melbourne, Rae Street is the first of two albums that Things of Stone and Wood plans to release this year.
The folk rockers have also shared the double A-side single ‘You’d Gone Before You Went/The Windmills Turn’, which is out now via MGM.
‘You’d Gone Before You Went’ is an emotional tearjerker about Greg Arnold’s experience of losing his mother to Alzheimer’s. At the same time, ‘The Windmills Turn’ is an upbeat Celtic-influenced folk foot-stomper with accordions, melodicas, hand drums, shakers and lush backing vocals.
Things of Stone and Wood have also added dates to their upcoming national tour, which will see the band's “Original Duo” (Arnold and Michael Allen) performing songs from their new record alongside all the classic Things of Stone and Wood tracks, including ‘Happy Birthday Helen’, ‘Wildflowers’, ‘Rock This Boat’', ‘Share This Wine’ and more.
The tour kicks off in Western Australia with three shows that take place at Perth’s Ellington Jazz Club on Wednesday 11 March, Margaret River’s The River on Thursday 12 March and Fremantle’s Clancy’s on Friday 13 March.
Things of Stone and Wood then play Brisbane’s Junk Bar on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March, Nambour’s The Presynct on Saturday 21 March, Sydney’s Django Bar on Friday 27 March, Canberra’s Smith’s Alternative on Saturday 28 March, Melbourne’s Merri Creek Tavern on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 April and Bendigo’s Old Church of the Hill on Friday 1 May.
The final two dates of the tour are at Adelaide’s The Wheatsheaf on Thursday 21 May and Avoca Beach’s Theatre on Friday 22 May.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now at thingsofstoneandwood.com.
