Ben Folds Australian Orchestra Tour 2027

Ben Folds has announced he's returning to Australia for a run of orchestral concerts with the country's best symphony orchestras.

The first event revealed as part of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's (ASO) 2027 season will reimagine Folds' beloved songbook alongside the ASO, with conductor Carlo Antonioli leading the orchestra.

The Adelaide shows mark Folds' first time perfomring with the ASO in six years, with the concerts at Her Majesty's Theatre on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 February 2027 bringing the tour to a close.

Folds is excited to return to Australia and perform with the country's leading symphony orchestras, including the ASO, as part of a national tour which will also see him perform with the South Australian, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.

"Sharing the stage with an orchestra as my band is an honour I don't take lightly. I consider them among the finest musicians in the world, and together we offer audiences a musical experience like no other," Folds said.

"As a student of the orchestra, I sincerely believe they are a shining example of what we can accomplish in society when we all work in concert and harmony for a greater good."

Folds' Australian Orchestra Tour kicks off with two shows in Canberra with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra (CSO) at Llewellyn Hall on Saturday 23 January and Sunday 24 January. The tour then heads to Melbourne for two shows at Hamer Hall on Friday 29 January and Saturday 30 January with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), followed by two concerts at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) on Tuesday 2 February and Wednesday 3 February.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter then makes his way to Tassie for a collaboration with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) in Hobart at Wrest Point on Saturday 6 February, rounding out the tour in Adelaide at Her Majesty's Theatre alongside the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) on Thursday 18 February and Friday 19 February.

For ASO's Director of Artistic Planning, Simon Lord, the 2027 concerts will mark an exciting new chapter in the relationship as part of the orchestra's 2027 Season.

"There is an undeniable chemistry between the ASO and Ben, with his repertoire well suited to a symphonic setting. We are pleased to welcome Ben back for two special performances in February," Lord said.

ASO Principal Trumpet David Khafagi, who has previously shared the stage with Folds, said that the orchestra has a genuine respect for his artistry and showmanship.

"Ben is a true musician and natural entertainer. With orchestra, his songs take on another dimension and it’s a thrill to be able to bring them to life every time we meet," Khafagi said.

"As an honorary Australian, the orchestra welcomes any opportunity to collaborate with Ben, and we know that audiences share the same sentiment."
