It’s been four long years, but Sydney psych rock favourites The Lazy Eyes are back! The talented quartet are preparing for the release of their long-awaited sophomore album, Cheesy Love Songs, out Friday 21 August via AWAL.
Vocalist and guitarist Harvey Geraghty reveals the album “explore[s] our softer, love song side” and serves as a love letter to classic pop, drawing inspiration from ‘60s icons like The Kinks and The Beatles as much as it does from contemporary heartbreakers like The Strokes.
The Lazy Eyes have also shared the first taste of their new album with the delightfully charming single ‘The One Who Got Away’. Acting as a spiritual sequel to their song ‘Imagineary Girl’, the track was written around the time the lads finished their high school exams.
“This song captures a feeling of regret or longing for a type of love that you know can't exist in your reality,” the band shares. “It's a little bit about the human desire of always wanting what you can't have and thinking how perfect things could have been instead of being present and just enjoying your life.
“It's about holding on to fantasy and in that way it has a dreamy and sad quality to it. It's definitely not your run-of-the-mill 'we're happy together I love you' type of song. It's not exactly about heartbreak either, it's about a love that never was.”
Fans keen to hear their new single live can catch The Lazy Eyes supporting Psychedlic Porn Crupmpets on their national tour that kicks off this weekend in Melbourne at The Croxton on Friday 27 March. Shows follow at Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide on Saturday 28 March, Factory Theatre in Sydney on Friday 10 April and Crowbar in Brisbane on Saturday 11 April.
The Lazy Eyes also have two free gigs planned for Melbourne’s Punters Club on Thursday 30 April and Sydney’s Vic On The Park on Friday 1 May.

High school prodigies, The Lazy Eyes consist of dual singer/guitarists Itay Shachar and Harvey Geraghty, drummer Noah Martin and bass player Leon Karagic.
Taking their name from lyrics continued in the Beach House’s ‘Common Girl’, the lads had everyone intrigued after performing at BIGSOUND 2019. Their debut single ‘Cheesy Love Song’ followed, before two EPs and their well-received 2022 debut album SongBook.
The Lazy Eyes found themselves supporting the likes of Wet Leg, Djo and The Strokes, while also playing Laneway Festival, SXSW, All Points East, Splendour in the Grass and touring across Australia, New Zealand, the US, Mexico, the UK and Europe.
After four years of no new music, The Lazy Eyes are back bigger and better than ever, with Cheesy Love Songs shaping as one of the must-hear albums of 2026.
