Big ups for Teenage Joans! The South Australian-made punk-duo and 2020 triple j Unearthed High winners made their ‘Like A Version’
debut this morning on the national youth broadcaster.
On air with morning hosts Bryce and Concetta, the pair split the beans on their opening set for Foo Fighters (confirming that Dave Grohl complemented their music as ‘so ’90s’), and chatted about a blunder at Clarity Records before breaking out into live performed of ‘Kaleidoscopes’, the closing track from their debut album, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest. Then came time for the nation to guess what song Teenage Joans would be playing for their Like A Version. “62923,” was the clue…Any guesses? Carley Rae Jepsen’s runaway single ‘Call Me Maybe’.Performing a tightly-coiled pop-punk take of the #1 smash hit, the duo rocked the triple j studios with the help of a set of live violins and cello. Woven with Teenage Joans' signature bright sound, heavy beat and all-or-nothing vibe, this Like A Version is exactly what our little emo selves needed back in 2012. 10/10, 5 stars, no notes. ‘Life Is Long’ is Bromham’s first release since 2024’s ‘Adulthood’.
Also topping the bill are Tate McRae, Lorde, John Summit, Jennie and the xx.
