John ‘Swanee’ Swan is Aussie rock royalty. The older brother of Cold Chisel’s Jimmy Barnes, Swanee started life as a drummer before taking over vocal duties from Bon Scott as the lead singer of rockers Fraternity.
He performed with Fraternity for two years before joining Feather in 1977 and then embarking on a solo career a year later.
He earned his first top-five charting single in 1981 with his cover of Tim Hardin’s ‘If I Were a Carpenter’. 1989 saw Swanee replace Angry Anderson as vocalist for The Party Boys before going solo once again in 1989.
Since then, Swanee has released six studio albums – his most recent being 2014’s One Day At a Time – and has become a staple of the touring circuit, regularly performing at festivals and collaborating with a host of top Aussie artists.
