Six-time Golden Guitar and 11-time MO award-winning artist Melinda Schneider has announced a new tour paying tribute to the great Barbra Streisand.
The Way We Were brings Streisand’s timeless songs to life in the live arena. Schneider, along with her talented backing band, will perform all of Streisand’s biggest hits, Broadway songs and iconic film themes.
“I fell in love with Barbra Streisand when I first heard her sing ‘The Way We Were’ when I was three years old and my mother taught it to me on the ukulele,” explains Schneider. “The chords were difficult for a little girl, but the hardest part was holding back the tears as I sang. Her music was so real and touched the very core of me.
“I am so humbled by the opportunity to bring Barbra’s life to the stage in story and song. Barbra Streisand is a true artist who possesses one of the finest voices the world has ever heard, yes, but she is so much more than that…. an inspired actor and director, with the kind of resilience, instincts and determination we wished we’d all possessed. I can’t wait to celebrate her.”
Melinda Schneider’s The Way We Were tour commences in Melbourne at Hamer Hall on Friday 7 August. The powerful vocalist then performs at Adelaide’s Her Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday 8 August, Wollongong’s Anita’s Theatre on Friday 14 August, Canberra’s Llewellyn Hall on Saturday 15 August, Caloundra’s The Events Centre on Thursday 20 August and Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall on Friday 21 August.
The final three shows take place at Twin Towns in Tweed Heads on Saturday 22 August, Civic Theatre in Newcastle on Thursday 27 August and Sydney Opera House Concert Hall in Sydney on Sunday 30 August.
Tickets go on sale at 9am AEDT on Monday 17 November via thewaywewere.com.au.
