'Seriously' is the Third Single Take From Editors Upcoming Eighth Studio Album

Next month, UK indie outfit Editors drop their eighth studio album, Surface, Echo & Sound, on Friday 30 October via Play It Again Sam.

Following on from previous singles 'Call It In' and 'The Rush', the Birmingham lads have now shared their third single, 'Seriously'.

The song is very much in tune with Editors' early work, recalling the post-rock '80s sound that first got them discovered.

Discussing 'Seriously', frontman Tom Smith says, "So much of the stuff that has been written about us in the past focused on a darkness or a bleakness. But every time someone wants to talk to me about our band or shows me a tattoo they have of one of our lyrics or wants me to write some lyrics down for them, it's always lyrics that have love and warmth and hope in them. If you remove them from their setting, or perhaps the way I’ve sung them, they’re not dark at all."

Editors' new record arrives after 2022's EBM, a collaboration with electronic producer Blanck Mass, otherwise known to his family and friends as Benjamin John Power.

After Smith dropped his debut solo album in 2025, the frontman returned to the band with a stack of song ideas that became the foundation for Surface, Echo & Sound.

“It was a very productive summer,” says Smith. “The sun was out for the most part, we were in greenest Gloucestershire, not far from where I live, on this innocuous little industrial estate – it was pretty much the opposite of being in Berghain!”

Formed in Birmingham more than two decades ago, Editors quickly rose to the top of the UK album charts with their #1 albums An End Has a Start (2007) and In This Light and In This Evening (2009).

The band have released seven albums in total, racking up millions of streams, selling out shows across Europe and playing at the world's best festivals.

Surface, Echo & Sound feels like the band coming full circle and is sure to be another huge hit for Editors.
