Hot on the heels of announcing an Australian tour last month, prog rockers Karnivool have unveiled their first slice of new music in four years.
‘Drone’ ushers in a new chapter, with the desert rocker feeling a little Queen of the Stone Ageish. The track is taken from a larger body of work, with a brand spanking new Karnivool album on the horizon.
“Drone’ is the sound of Karnivool entering a new era — a slow-cooked journey forged in the studio’s heat, where every note was tested and tempered,” the band said in a statement.
“This track hums with the weight of vast Western Australian deserts, anchored by colossal rock riffs that could only come from our home. It’s both a reflection and a rebirth.”
The five-piece’s upcoming Ad Complemenum Australian tour will see Karnivool joined by Briggs’ new project Big Noter, with the two acts hitting 14 venues across July and August.
“We can’t bloody wait to get out there and share what’s been brewing in the Karnivool riff pot, and show folks what they have to look forward to,” says frontman Ian Kenny.
Karnivool’s Ad Complementum tour begins at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on Wednesday 16 July 16 and continues with shows in capital cities and regional towns around Australia before finishing up with two sold-out hometown shows at Perth’s Metropolis Fremantle on Thursday 16 October and Friday 17 October.
Tickets for all remaining shows are on sale now via karnivool.com.
For close to three decades, Karnivool have been at the forefront of the prog rock scene in Australia. Despite only releasing three albums – Themata (2005), Sound Awake (2009) and the ARIA #1 Asymmetry (2013) – the Perth quintet have gained a legion of adoring fans both here in Australia and across the world.
The current lineup, comprising original members Ian Kenny (lead vocals) and Drew Goddard (guitar, backing vocals) alongside Jon Stockman (bass, unclean vocals), Mark Hosking (guitar, backing vocals) and Steve Judd (drums), are excited to get back out on the road and share new music with their fans this winter.
‘Drone’ by Karnivool is out now via Cymatic Records / Sony Music. Catch Karnivool at Hindley Street Music Hall on Sunday, August 3. For ticketing information, visit karnivool.com.
