July 17 – Noteworthy New Releases

Maiden Name – ‘Plain View’
The second single from local alt-rockers Maiden Name is a sludgy, grunge-inspired dazzler that transforms from a slow, cathartic rock expression into an explosive, Mogwai-esque post-rock gut punch across five and a half thrilling minutes. These four young upstarts are well worth keeping an eye on.
Sounds like: Hazy static.
THE FUSS – ‘ENEMY’
Comprised of five university mates, THE FUSS has been making their presence felt for a couple of years now, with ‘ENEMY’ arguably the group’s best release yet. This is moody music for those who like the danger of ‘90s alternative rock with emotionally engaging lyrics. The final minute is made for the headbangers.
Sounds like: ‘90s funk.
Oscar The Wild – ‘Sunrise’
2026 ushers in the next chapter in the career of Oscar the Wild, and if the new single ‘Sunrise’ is anything to go by, it’s going to be epic. This one has a real summer feel to it, with plenty of “yeahs” and a ripping guitar riff that absolutely shreds. This talented bunch can do no wrong in our book, and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
Sounds like: Summer vibes.
Ella Ion – ‘My Love’
How good is Ella Ion? So good! After a smattering of singles last year, ‘My Love’ tops off a massive 12 months that’s seen Ion release the EP Liminal Archive, perform at major Aussie festivals and play Austin’s SXSW. As for ‘My Love’, it’s the type of moving tale you would expect Angel Olsen and Julia Jacklin to cook up in the studio. Simply breathtaking.
Sounds like: Our next global star.
