Loudon Wainwright III Announces Australian & New Zealand Tour 2027

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost two decades since Loudon Wainwright III last toured Australia and New Zealand, making next year’s visit extra special.

The contemporary folk artist is bringing his sharp wit and heart-wrenching compositions down under for seven shows in February 2027.

Across his career, Wainwright has produced a string of enduring classics, including ‘The Swimming Song’, ‘Dead Skunk’, ‘Daughter’, ‘Motel Blues’, ‘Down Drinking at the Bar’, and ‘Lullaby’, and fans can expect to hear them all and more when he takes to the stage.

Loudon Wainwright III begins his tour with two shows in New Zealand at Auckland’s Hollywood Avondale on Tuesday 2 February and Wellington’s James Hay Theatre on Thursday 4 February.

He then makes his way to Australia for five concerts at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday 6 February, Adelaide’s The Gov on Tuesday 9 February, Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Thursday 11 February, Melbourne’s Recital Centre on Sunday 14 February and finally Perth’s Astor Theatre on Wednesday 17 February.

Beginning his career in the ‘60s, it took until the release of 1972’s ‘Dead Skunk’ before Wainwright III broke through.

Since then he’s released more than 30 albums, including the Grammy‑winning High Wide & Handsome (2009) and has had his songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Mose Allison, Bonnie Raitt and his son Rufus Wainwright.

An accomplished actor who appeared on MASH and in films by Martin Scorsese and Steven Soderbergh, Waingwright III is an incredible live performer who Australian and New Zealand music lovers get to witness first-hand next year.
