The book will delve into Farnham’s long and illustrious career.
After the recent success of his doco, John Farnham: Finding the Voice, the ‘Pressure Down’ singer is finally ready to tell his story in print form.
The Voice Inside will tell Farnham’s life story in his own words, with help from Poppy Stockell, who directed the 2023 doco about his life.
“Having been asked many times, it finally felt like the right time to sit down and tell my story,” said Farnham in a press statement.
“It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad, and now that I have started, it is all rushing back. I hope the book engages and entertains, because that’s what so much of my life has been about.”
The Voice Inside will explore Farnham’s childhood in London and Melbourne, chart his slow rise to the top of the charts, reveal stories behind the recording of his hit album Whispering Jack and detail his continued success as one of Australia’s greatest touring artists.
The memoir will also discuss Farnham’s dark days when record companies turned their back on him and he thought his career was over, his battle with mouth cancer in 2022 and the tragic death of his best friend and manager, Glen Wheatley.
Talking about her time with Farnham, Stockell had nothing but praise for the man known as The Voice.
“His resilience and sense of humour shine through every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music. It’s been a joy to help bring his tales to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.”
Described as “sitting down with an old friend sharing stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining,” The Voice Inside is shaping up as the definitive journal of Farnham’s long and successful career.
Hachette Australia and Talentworks are behind the memoir, which is set for release on Wednesday October 30.
