Beginning life as street performers, Hothouse Flowers caught the eye of fellow Irishman Bono when they won the Street Entertainers of the Year award in 1985. This led to the group signing a record deal with PolyGram and releasing their debut album, People, in 1988.
The album topped the Irish charts and was followed by two more #1 albums, 1990’s Home and 1993’s Songs From the Rain. The group have released four more studio albums since, with their most recent being 2020’s Let’s Do This Thing.
Although no longer making a dent in the charts, Hothouse Flowers have a loyal worldwide fanbase, with their energetic live shows known for the band’s impromptu improvisations, meaning no show is ever the same.
