Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) Presents Battle of the Bands at Nexus Arts
This exciting new live music competition aims to spotlight local artists and give them experience performing live.

Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) have announced an exciting new live music competition, Battle of the Bands, an event aiming to shine a spotlight on emerging local artists and give them experience performing live.
Taking over Nexus Arts on Saturday 15 August, five emerging Adelaide acts will take to the stage, including several performers from the Flinders community.
For just $10, head along and see some exceptional Adelaide talent, with Jaded Earth, The Bluff, The Watchers, Methylated and Blue Pwr Man all involved.
For the uninitiated, Jaded Earth are a four-piece comprising vocalist Jai Varmaan, guitarist and vocalist Taj Varmaan, bassist Ollie Kovacev and drummer Ben Waller, who take inspiration from vintage '60s and '70s rock, while The Bluff are an alt-rock trio made up of Kacey Galwey on vocals and guitar, Jack Salman on bass and Aidan Manning on drums.
The Watchers are another rock and roll-inspired outfit featuring Mel Mickles (vocals), Ashton Grice (guitar), Lewis Trimboli (bass) and Harry Mumford (drums), whose latest single, 'Crossing the Line', has become a fan favourite.
Then there is Methylated, a four-piece "playing songs about heartbreak and hashbrowns" comprising vocalist Beth Van Raalte, guitarist Tilda Harvey, drummer Dylan Watson and bassist Kacey Galwey, and last but not least, Blue Pwr Man, an indie surf rock quartet who take influence from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ocean Alley and feature Hugo Gray-Combe (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Oscar Steer (lead guitar) Josh Vogelsang (bass) and Oliver Combe (drums, backing vocals).

The night will be MC’d by music curator Band Banta, who is a great supporter of the local scene.
Each band performing is in the running for a prize package that includes tickets to the South Australian Music Awards and a merchandise prize pack. The winner is determined entirely by the audience vote on the night.
"Battle of the Bands is about creating an opportunity for the coolest emerging artists to perform on a professional stage while also bringing people together through live music," explains Ellie Gleadle, one of the event's organisers.
"Adelaide has the best local talent, and I wanted to make an event that gives these bands another chance to be seen."
FUSA's Battle of the Bands takes place at Nexus Arts on Saturday 15 August from 7pm - 11pm. Tickets are on sale now via humanitix.com.
