Empress Announce New Album 'We Can Make A River', Share Single 'One By One'
The Naarm/Melbourne-based six-piece's sophomore album is set for release in January next year.

Naarm/Melbourne-based six-piece Empress have announced the release of their sophomore album, We Can Make A River, out Friday 29 January.
Reuniting after several years pursuing their own solo projects, We Can Make A River follows the electro-pop ensemble's 2023 debut, Daughter.
The album was self-produced in-house by band members Noah Hutchinson and Christy Wositzky-Jones and mixed and mastered by nine-time ARIA Award winner Nick Herrera (Hiatus Kaiyote, Miss Kaninna, Sex on Toast) and finds each of the six members bringing something unique to the studio.
"A river isn't made by one drop of water, and neither is this record," says vocalist Grace Robinson. "It's six different voices and six different musical perspectives finding a way to move together. Sometimes it rushes, sometimes it meanders, sometimes it takes a completely unexpected turn. It's messy, fluid, occasionally chaotic and all the more beautiful for it."

Empress have also shared new single 'One By One', which follows the previously released track 'Whole Night'.
A lush, vibrant pop song featuring the band's trademark three-part vocal arrangements, Robinson says 'One By One' "is the brighter, more playful side of a record that constantly moves between darkness and light."
She goes on to say: "It's about the tiny, seemingly insignificant moments that end up holding us together. A night spent laughing with friends, drinking wine, dancing in someone’s kitchen or making music with the people you love. None of these moments necessarily feels monumental while it’s happening, but somehow, one by one, they become the things that keep us afloat."
'One By One' is out now. Listen here. We Can Make A River is out Friday 29 January.
