Bess Atwell Announces New Album 'Cut A Figure'

The UK singer-songwriter has also shared new single 'Glass'

UK singer-songwriter Bess Atwell has announced that her fourth studio album, Cut A Figure, will be released on Friday 5 February 2027 via Nettwerk.

Following 2024's critically acclaimed Light Sleeper, Atwell's upcoming album was written after retreating to Quebec for nine months. Working with Los Angeles-based producer and mixer Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands, DIIV, Foals, and more), Cut A Figure finds Atwell trying new things in the studio.

"The songs I really enjoyed performing from my last record were the rare moments where I put down any instruments, and it was just me singing to my audience, which can be a bit scary," she says. "But those were the songs that seemed to connect the most, and where I felt most free to actually live with the song and what it was about."

The emotional core of Cut A Figure is the soaring new single 'Glass', which takes inspiration from the album's title.

"I knew I wanted to name the album after a line in this song as it feels like the heart of the record," explains Atwell. "Sometimes, an eagerness to be seen and understood can have the opposite effect - you can be so transparent that you end up invisible. When I was a teenager, I was really into doing 'personality tests'. One test had you imagine a cube and then describe it (the cube supposedly representing how you express yourself). All my friends and family pictured various different sizes and colours, while I saw a transparent glass box floating in space."

To coincide with the release of Cut A Figure, Atwell is embarking on a world tour that includes shows across the UK, Ireland, Europe, North America and Australia.

Landing down under in March, Atwell's Cut A Figure tour begins in Sydney on Wednesday 24 March at Oxford Art Factory, followed by shows at Melbourne's Corner Hotel on Thursday 25 March and Brisbane's Brightside on Saturday 27 March, wrapping up in Adelaide at Jive on Tuesday 30 March.
