After the massive success of last year’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, another American music legend is getting the big screen treatment. Deliver Me From Nowhere centres on the one and only Bruce Springsteen and the recording of his seminal 1982 album Nebraska.
Based on the book of the same name by Warren Zanes and directed by Scott Cooper, the film stars The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen alongside Jeremy Strong as his manager Joe Landau, Marc Maron as producer Chuck Plotkin and Johnny Cannizzaro as Steven Van Zandt.
“Making ‘Springsteen’ was deeply moving as it allowed me to step inside the soul of an artist I’ve long admired—and to witness, up close, the vulnerability and strength behind his music,” Copper explained in a press release.
“The experience felt like a journey through memory, myth, and truth. And more than anything, it was a privilege to translate that raw emotional honesty to the screen, and in doing so, it changed me. I cannot thank Bruce and Jon Landau enough for allowing me to tell their story.”
The trailer is narrated by Strong, who recounts a story from Springsteen’s youth about a hole in the floor and how the recording of Nebraska is his way of repairing that hole, a metaphor for the fractured relationship he has with his father.
While White doesn’t necessarily resemble the Boss when he breaks into ‘Born To Run’ at the end of the trailer, he does a pretty spot-on impersonation.
