The Killers vocalist Brandon Flowers is taking time away from the Las Vegas quartet to release his third solo album, Thrasher, set for release on Friday 21 August via Island Records.

Flowers' first album in more than a decade, Thrasher was heavily influenced by the music he listened to as a young lad – country.

“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found my way back to my father’s music — ‘Country-Western’ (as he called it) — and discovered that the stories I carry really feel most at home in the skin of this beautiful American tradition,” Flowers said in a statement.

Thrasher was recorded at Nashville’s iconic RCA Studio A with producers Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado. Flowers also collaborated with some of the city’s most revered musicians, including guitarist David Rawlings, pedal steel player Bruce Bouton and 85-year-old harmonica player Charlie McCoy.

Flowers has also shared the album’s first single, ‘Plans’, an enjoyable country ballad with a touch of Bruce Springsteen, which you can listen to below.

Flowers has also announced a run of shows across North America and Europe in September and October, with ticketing information available here.

Emerging as one of modern music’s great frontmen with The Killers, who broke through with their hit indie record Hot Fuss in 2004, Flowers and his bandmates have gone on to release a further six albums, transforming from indie favourites to stadium rockers.

As a solo artist, Flowers has released two studio albums, Flamingo (2010) and The Deseried Effect (2015), both of which show a different side to the singer-songwriter.

‘Plans’ by Brandon Flowers is out now. Listen here. Thrasher is set for release on Friday 21 August via Island Records. Pre-order/pre-save here.
